- Check engine oil

- Tighten drive shaft U-bolts

Pre-Trip Preparation
- Contact Volunteer Specialist
- Check your registration and certification
- Obtain maps
- Check the weather
- Plan access to food, lodging, and gas
- Pack plenty of water (hydrate on the way to the trailhead)
- Be familiar and take inventory of first aid/survival kit
- Inventory and be familiar with tool kit and owner’s manual
- Double check that machines are loaded properly
- Complete appropriate OHV training
- Wear all safety gear (including extra clothing)
- Leave a copy of your route plan with another person
- Carry sufficient Water
On Trail
- Never host a trail alone
- Designate a leader and a “tail gunner”
- Travel with your head lights on for safety
- Obey posted speed limits
- Use appropriate hand signals
- Maintain visual contact with rider behind you
- Track your progress on your map or GPS unit
Post-Trip
- Perform a post ride check of your OHV for damage
- Wash OHV to find mechanical issues
- Replace items used from tool kits or first aid kits
